If God Could Save Through Water, Why Not Through Fire?

If Many People Left Behind Out Of Ark During Noah's Time Were Saved, How About Sodom And Gomorrah?

Question : The answer you've given for the spirits in Noah's time, I can't understand, that the flood was the judgement on them. If we say, their spirits will be saved in the future, how about Sodom Gomorrah judgement with fire?

Answer : Greetings in Jesus wonderful name! You have asked a very deep and a fine question. Let us delve in to the ocean of God's Scripture. First of all, according to the Scripture, both Noah's time judgment of God through water and Sodom's and Gomorrah's time Judgment of God were clearly told by Jesus as a symbolic type of the end time judgment that is going to come upon the whole humanity (Luke 17:24-25, 26-30). We know that when God gives a Anti-type of One that is foreshadowed by or identified with an earlier symbol or type, such as a figure in the New Testament who has a counterpart in the Old Testament, nearly all the details must fit together perfectly and only then we can take it as a perfect Anti-type. I believe that first the Noah's time judgment is represented by water Baptism that we receive when we come to Christ which leads us in to the Ark which is Jesus Christ who will save us from the wrath of God that is coming upon the whole humanity for its sinfulness (1 Peter 3:20; 2 Thess 1:6-7; 1 Thess 1:10). The second judgment of God upon Sodom and Gomorrah is through fire, which I believe is the burning judgment upon the flesh that remains after born again experience is burnt by the fire of Heaven which is the Baptism by the Holy Spirit and Fire which comes upon every believer who longs for a sanctified and empowered life, this is a progressive judgment of God upon the believer which starts first in the house of God and that which spreads to the unbelieving world (1 Peter 3:21; Matt 3:11-12; 1 Peter 4:17, 18).

Now let us see that the first judgment of Noah's time even though only eight living people were saved through the Ark, yet the Scripture confirms that many were saved through the water's of judgment which came upon the sons of God who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine long-suffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared (1 Peter 3:18-21). These spirits who were dead in prison to which Jesus visited after His death to preach the gospel and take them to heaven with Him (1 Peter 4:5-6; 2 Peter 2:5; Eph 4:8-9, 10). These disobedient sons of God (i.e.) their spirits will not be saved in the future, but it has already happened when Jesus rose from the dead, before which he went in to the prison where these people were lodged until then, and preached the good news of the Gospel to them, and thereafter took them with Him to leave that place for them to be with Him forever and ever (Matt 27:50-51, 52-53). In short, this event will not happen in the future, but has already happened in the past for the Glory of God according to the Scripture.

Now let us see if anybody who were visited by the fire judgment were saved during Lot's time which are categorized as living and the dead believers, Lot's wife who turned back to the world was dead in disobedience, she died, the father and the two girls who were living obeyed the Word of the Lord in obedience and were shown the favor of God, and were saved. After these four, all those of unbelievers who having given themselves to sexual immorality and strange flesh are set forth as an example for the end time people, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire (2 Peter 2:5-9, 10-11; Jude 7-8). So we know that during Sodom and Gomorrah time judgment, except Lot's family all the unbelievers faced eternal fire of God's wrath. I believe the same warning of what happened to Lot's wife, Jesus gave to the end time believers who will live without sanctification by fire, that they should be careful to live godly and not turn back to the world in disobedience and die with the unbelievers physically though they will be saved in the spirit spiritually by Jesus (Luke 17:31-33, 34-37; 1 Cor 5:5; 11:31-32). If as believers we give ourselves in to the burning fire of the Holy Spirit willingly, we will not be judged with the world, or else the judgment that will be upon the world will also come upon us who are living a unsanctified life with the world (Heb 12:5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11).

So through the first judgment upon the world God has saved many disobedient sons of God during Noah's time and then promised through the rainbow that He will never again judge by water, so Jesus Christ stepped in and got judged spiritually to then give us the mercy of the rainbow which is the salvation of our souls (Gen 9:8-17; Rev 4:2, 3--4, 5).

The second and the progressive culmination of it in the final judgment of earth by fire is revealed by apostle Peter to happen at the end after the thousand year reign of Jesus Christ on this earth (2 Peter 3:10-13). Like Lot and his family, many will be able to escape this judgment of God which will start at the time of second coming of Jesus to the earth after the rapture of the saints and will end only at the end of the thousand years in which fire will come from heaven and will burn the whole earth in to gaseous oblivion (Luke 17:28-37; Rev 20:7-10; 2 Peter 3:5-6, 7, 8-9). But the unbelievers who reject the gospel message will not be able to escape the eternal fire waiting for them (Rev 20:11-15).

One of the main reason why God who gave the second chance to the disobedient sons of God (Rom 5:13, 14; Acts 17:30; Rom 3:25-26; Gen 5:1-32), but did not give further more chances for the disobedient unbelievers even though Abraham interceded for the averting of judgment upon Sodom and Gomorrah was because during the time of Abraham, there was widespread revelation about the God of Abraham who saved them from the destruction at the hands of other kings who captured them for slaughter (Gen 18:16-33; 14:1-24). Then Lot who lived among them was a light house to the evidence of Jehovah God's reign over them which they hated because of their own lifestyle of darkness and sexual immorality (John 3:19-21), then the two angels of mercy being abused before the very eyes of God was a sign of their lack of inclination to repent but their sincere desire to continue in their evil ways (Gen 19:1-29).

As God says, whatever is revealed by God belongs to us and our children forever that we may do all the words of this law, whatever is hidden as secret things belong to the Lord (Deut 29:29). So let us be satisfied with what has been revealed by God for us to walk in His ways and be rejoicing in it always!

Much Blessings....
